Milton Glaser, the designer of the iconic New York logo “I Love NY” and a world leader in graphic design has left us at the age of 91 years. He was a great professional, a great artist and a great person, and it is a great loss for everyone. For 7 Portes, Milton Glaser was a customer and a friend we will not forget due to the appreciation he showed us at all times. It is very sad that he has passed away.
The relationship between Milton Glaser and 7 Portes began when Barcelona was preparing for the 1992 Summer Olympics. Milton spent some time in the city preparing the new design of the La Vanguardia newspaper. A few years later, he returned to Barcelona for a retrospective exhibition of his work. On both occasions he visited us and became a regular customer. He was enchanted by the architecture of Barcelona and Mediterranean cuisine and was fascinated by the over a hundred-year history of the restaurant and Catalan cuisine.
His affection led to a specific collaboration. In 2011, Milton Glaser designed the labels for our wines and cava for the 175th anniversary of the restaurant. Illustrations that, more than illustrations, are works of art! You can find them among the works he has published on his website, which is another demonstration of his affection. Later, in 2014, he also designed the label for our olive oil bottle. We only had to ask.
After a few months, he sent us his sketches and preparatory works, inspired in Greek mythology and Mediterranean flora. Dionysius, Greek god of wine, is on the red wine and a sketch of a fauna and olive leaves is on the white wine, among others.
We will always be grateful for his affection.
“We Love Milton” forever.
